Taney County Presiding Commissioner Candidates Talk at Local Forum

Local election candidates discussed their qualifications and more during the Branson U Candidate Forum on Friday.

The Branson Tri-Lakes News hosted this forum which saw candidates of local elections presenting their case for election victory. Presiding Commissioner candidates Nick Plummer, Ken Roten, Noah Prahlow, and W. Alex McAuley were up first. They were asked to describe the responsabilities attached to the position. Roten and his opponents highlighted that the position represents the whole county. Each candidate spoke about why it's important they fill this position.

Plummer, business owner, said he was born and raised in the area and knows the people that live in it. He said it's important that whoever fills the role understands the people on both sides of the county. Prahlow followed Plummer and said that the person who will fill the position needs a "firm understanding of what the proper role of government is." He said he believes he has studied the proper role the most and has the greatest understanding of the topic. Prahlow is a real estate agent.

McAuley said "we are representatives of the people" and proceeded to comment on federal government. Roten was last to share why he ought to win.

"I believe the reason I should be elected is, government should be ran like a business. Government should be held accountable. Government should have a plan, a plan that the people can have access to and look at at any given time so the government can be held accountable," Roten said. He noted the importance of the position being occupied by someone with business experience and previous public service experience; he said he has served on school board, water district board and served as board chairman for the regional sewer district.

The forum can be viewed in full on the Branson Tri-Lakes News Facebook Page.
