Three People Injured after Swift Water Rescue in Douglas County

Three people are injured, one critically, after a swift water rescue under a bridge in Douglas County Thursday.

The full release below is from the Douglas County, Mo. Sheriff's Facebook Page:

On June 19, 2025, Deputy Jesse Three Eagles responded to a call off the PP Highway for a child who had been swept into a culvert under a bridge and become entrapped.

Deputy Three Eagles, Goodhope Fire, Cox Ambulance and numerous Citizens responded to the scene. As rescuers were trying to reach the child from the downstream side, an off-duty Ozark County Dispatcher attempted to plug the culvert on the upstream side to cut off the water flow. The Dispatcher was partially swept into the culvert and began yelling for help. Deputy Three-Eagles grabbed her and partially pulled her up before the suction drug him into the culvert. Deputy Three Eagles traveled through the culvert before colliding with the child inside the culvert, who was pinned by debris. The collision knocked the child loose, resulting in the child and Deputy Three-Eagles exiting the culvert into the creek. The Dispatcher also ended up being sucked into the tube and came out in the creek.

Deputy Three Eagles and First Responder immediately began life-saving measures on the child.

The child was flown to the hospital, where she remains in critical condition.

Both Deputy Three-Eagles and the Dispatcher sustained injuries and were transported to the hospital as well. Both were released late Thursday night.
