Charles D. Watson, 82, passed away August 31, 2025.
Dr. Charles D. Watson, born February 19, 1943, in Hot Springs Arkansas, passed away August 31, 2025, in Little Rock Arkansas. Survived by his wife of 60 years, Fredonia Ann Watson; his daughter, Alice Bradberry and husband, Doug of Maumelle, Arkansas; his son, Andy Watson and wife, Stephanie of Branson, Missouri; cousin, Sue Ward of Maumelle. Survived by his five grandchildren: Hayden Bradberry, Roy Watson, Sam Watson, Lucy Reynolds, Emma Camara, and their spouses; as well as 9 great-grandchildren. Charles was preceded in death by his dog, Charcoal.
Charles is a man known by his unwavering faith and dedication. This confidence and assurance in Christ overflowed in every aspect of his life. Charles cared deeply for his family while lovingly protecting and providing for them. Those he loved benefit by his generosity, constancy, and wisdom and will cherish his memory for years to come.
Charles loved math. He devoted over 55 years to education in mathematics and used his vocation to pour into the lives of students. His accomplishments and accolades would quickly and easily fill this page. Dr. Watson, however, conducted a career in humility and used his leadership to serve others. While a professor of Algebra at the University of Central Arkansas, he spent evenings at the dorms to tutor students in his classes. He committed many nights and countless hours over facetime tutoring his grandkids through every high school math class. They knew, and he always told them, that Papa was only a phone call away.
Charles possessed numerous interests and talents. He was a skillful artist and a gifted florist. Alongside his distinguished career, he conducted a floral business that played part in many weddings over the years. Charles and Ann loved to travel. Together they journeyed all over the country and world. Those who know Charles and Ann witnessed a lifelong loving and devoted marriage.
Charles loved his church. He called Trinity United Methodist his church home for over 50 years. Charles was a certified lay speaker in the United Methodist Church. He taught Sunday school, played the organ and piano, and sang in the choir. In his retired years, he volunteered in the church office. His faith emitted the light and love of Jesus as commanded by Christ in Matthew 5: “let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”
We thank our Father in Heaven for Charles Watson's full and beautiful life. We praise The Lord knowing that he has been ushered into the gates of Heaven, and we continue to wait patiently to hear the words we know Charles has received from the Master: Well done good and faithful servant!
A service will be held at Trinity United Methodist Church, 1101 N. Mississippi Street, Little Rock, at 2:00 p.m. Monday September 15, 2025.
