Cheryl Ann McGowan, age 70, passed away on January 17, 2026.
We are all saddened to share that mom, grandma, and for many our friend, Cheryl Ann McGowan, age 70, of Springfield, Missouri, of January 17, 2026, after a long fight with medical complications. She entered this life on December 26, 1955, the daughter of James McGowan II and Agnes Nehila in McKeesport, Pennsylvania.
Cheryl was dedicated to her community and truly valued building strong connections with others. She was known for her warped sense of humor and a beautifully unfiltered approach; she loved to laugh and loved compelling everyone to laugh more. Cheryl's generosity shone through as she made sure everyone felt welcome and cared for, especially when preparing meals for family and friends. When she had her grandbabies and daughter at her disposal, she would deliver surprise home-cooked hearty meals to others as well as stories of how it came to be. Even in tough times, Cheryl showed her feisty side that was born out of survival and a drive to continue showing an unknown amount of determination and strength—a legacy she would inspire her children and grandchildren to carry on.
Cheryl was quick to lend a helping hand whenever someone needed it. Her grandchildren enjoyed having her at their events, appreciated her creative activities, and benefited from her thoughtful touches. Though recent years brought difficulties, it is hoped these positive moments will stay fresh in their minds. Gamma will be fondly recalled as a woman who always did her hair and makeup, dressed in her hippie outfits, smelled like patchouli, and was always, ALWAYS, laughing. These cherished memories ensure that Cheryl will remain warmly remembered by all who knew her.
Rest in peace, mom— You earned it
