Gary Joe Burdett

Gary Joe Burdett, known as Joe, age 73...

Gary Joe Burdett, known as Joe, age 73, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 13, 2025 at his home in Greenfield, Missouri.

Born on September 17, 1951 in Exeter, Missouri, Joe was the son of LeRoy and Bessie (Hilburn) Burdett, both of whom, along with his beloved wife Peggy Rae Woodruff, preceded him in death. Also proceeding him in death are grandson, Aden; sister, Ursela and half-sister, Mary.

Joe's formative years were spent in the town of his birth, where he attended Exeter High School. Upon graduation, he answered the call of duty by serving in the United States Army during the Vietnam War, a time that would shape his character and instill in him a deep sense of patriotism. Following his military service, Joe returned to his roots and embarked on a lifelong career as an automobile mechanic.

He is survived by one son, Jay Burdett and his wife Liz of Aurora, Missouri; one daughter, Angela Edwards and her husband Paul of Stockton, Missouri; seven sisters, Judy Stockton of Greenfield, Missouri, Jenie Flicie of Cassville, Missouri, Janice Still of Exeter, Missouri, Brenda Taylor and her husband Tim of Philomath, Oregon, and Barbara Upchurch and her husband Alan of Collinsville, Oklahoma. Joe was a proud grandfather and great-grandfather. His eight grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren were the light of his life, and he treasured every moment spent with them.

Joe was an avid fisherman, finding joy in the tranquil waters. Yet, it was the laughter and playful energy of his grandchildren that truly filled his days with happiness. His life was well-lived, marked by the simple pleasures of hard work, the warmth of family gatherings, and the quiet moments spent in nature. Joe will be missed by all who knew him.

Graveside services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Thursday, June 19, 2025 at Russell Cemetery in Butterfield, Missouri under direction of Fohn Funeral Home in Cassville. Pastor Rick Cooper will be conducting the services.

Contributions may be made to American Heart Association in memory of Joe.
