James Sherman Young, age 78, passed away on December 26, 2025.
James Sherman “Jim” Young, age 78, of Washburn, Missouri passed away Friday, December 26, 2025 at his home.
He was born June 23, 1947 in Paola, Kansas the son of Sherman and Mary (Linville) Young. On August 9, 1968 in Blue Eye, Arkansas he was united in marriage to Sharon “Gayle” Young, who preceded him in death on October 28, 2023. Also preceding him in death were his parents; brother, Sam Young; sister, Margaret Ivey; brothers-in-law, Richard Dyer and Earl Ivey, and stepsister, Sharon Jones.
Surviving are his sons, Scott Young and wife Sheryl of Washburn, Clint Maddox and wife Tammy of Washburn and Dave Stover and wife Sandy of Seligman; daughter, Shawna Young of Washburn; brother, William Young and wife Sue of Purcellville, Virginia; sisters, Sharon Dyer of Atchison, Kansas and Sue Henson and husband Dewey of Springdale, Arkansas; grandchildren, Brittney and Devon Stubbings, Nathan and Faith Young, Breanna and Cordell Boyd, Baylee Maddox and Kaylee Stover; great grandchildren, Weston Young and Valley Boyd; honorary children, Santana Hobbs, Rusty Cornelius, Brandon Deschane, Brian Robbins, Eric Bernard and Shannon Davis; honorary grandchildren, Josh Corn, Ben Lasiter, Chad Oxford, Tanner Oldham and John Mulkey; honorary great-grandchildren, Ellie Santos, Easton Oxford, Harper Oxford, Rhett Mulkey, Maverick Mulkey, Boden Oxford, Parker Oxford, Lucas Lasiter, Rylee Oldham and Oden Mulkey.
Jim served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He was the recipient of the Bronze Star Medal with Valor, a second Bronze Star Medal and a Purple Heart. Jim owned and operated Sports World, AAA Trophies, Jim Young Trucking and Young Construction. He enjoyed golfing, mowing, Wednesday night dinners, going to the lake and four wheeling. Jim loved watching his grandchildren playing sports and spending time with his family. He was a lifelong Barry County resident.
Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Friday, January 2, 2026 at Fohn Funeral Home in Cassville. Reverend Dale Keel will conduct the services. Burial will be at Hickman Cemetery in Washburn, Missouri.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 7:00 P.M. Thursday, January 1, 2026 at Fohn Funeral Home in Cassville.
