Lex Venoy Maples, Jr., age 76, passed away September 7, 2025.
Lex Venoy Maples, Jr., age 76, of Mountain Home, AR, passed away on Sunday, September 7, 2025, at home. He was the son of Lex Venoy Maples, Sr. and Bobbye Hendrix Maples and born on January 11, 1949, in Pine Bluff, AR.
Lex was preceded in death by his parents; infant twin sisters; and his wife of 35 years, Sherry Earlene Maples. He is survived by his wife Jeannie Maples, the love of his life, of the home. When he married Jeannie, he was so proud of his new family. He is survived by his stepdaughter Jaime Gant (the Golden Child), her husband Stanley, and their children Dillon and Yanaiya; his stepdaughter Amanda Worrell (Manda Panda), her husband Matthew, and their children Emmett and Olivia; and his sister-in-law Becky Milligan and her husband David. He had one aunt, Lucille Hendrix of Little Rock; precious cousins, nephews and nieces. He is survived by his honorary daughter and special friend Gabrielle Cook and a whole host of great friends, including his beloved pups Marley Mae and Jersey Girl.
Lex served in the U.S. Navy from 1970 to 1974 and was a proud veteran. He graduated from University of Arkansas in Monticello with degrees in Speech Communications, Drama, and Physical Education. He graduated from Western Kentucky University with a Master of Science in Recreation Administration and a minor in Communications. He was the proud winner of 3rd Place in the State Championship of Toastmasters in Public Speaking and 12th place in the world. Lex worked in many interesting vocations over the years, but none as rewarding as being a Child Abuse Investigator for DHS from 1990 to 2013 in Boone, Newton, Marion and Baxter Counties.
Lex enjoyed traveling for as long as he was able, with Jeannie and friends. His greatest passion was fishing on the White River and golf. He had tons of tall fish tales. He will be remembered by family, friends, and classmates for his kindness, sense of humor, conversational skills, dancing and zest for life. He will be truly missed.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date to coincide with the "Grumpy Old Men's Trout Fishing Trip" that he helped to co-found. The date will be announced later. The family asks that memorials be made to Hospice of the Ozarks, 811 Burnett Drive, Mountain Home, AR 72653, or to your local Humane Society. Many thanks go out to the doctors, nurses, and health care providers that cared for Lex over the last few years.
