Susan Zoua Yang, age 85, of Mount Vernon, Missouri.
Susan Zoua Yang, age 85, of Mount Vernon, Missouri, passed away on June 11, 2025, in Mount Vernon, Missouri.
Born in Laos in 1940, she was the devoted wife of the late Pangyee Thao and loving mother to 8 children. Susan is survived by her children Chongtoua, Bla Xang, Cher Soua, Xue, Vue, Lee, Vang, and Chao, as well as her 48 grandchildren and 57 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son Xue, her husband and 2 great grandchildren.
A hardworking seamstress and homemaker, Susan devoted herself to caring for her family. In Thailand, she skillfully mended clothes to help make ends meet; later, she and Pangyee bravely immigrated to the United States with two unmarried children, Chongtoua and his family. Her industrious spirit and unwavering love provided a solid foundation for her loved ones.
Susan adored storytelling—her favorite pastime was recounting colorful memories from her youth: from life in Laos and Thailand, raising a large family, to the pride she felt seeing her children begin new chapters in America. Friends and family will fondly remember gathering around her for stories that were vivid, engaging, and full of warmth.
Gentle, resilient, and generous, Susan’s legacy lives on through the immigrant journey she and Pangyee embarked upon and the community she nurtured. Her laugh and nurturing presence made every house she lived in feel like home, and her stories will continue to bring families together in remembrance.
Services will be held from 8:00 AM Saturday, July 19, 2025 until 9:00 AM Monday, July 21, 2025 at McQueen Funeral Home in Wheaton. Burial will be at 10:00 AM Wednesday, July 23, 2025 at Holy Cross Cemetery in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
